The Cursed Coin and the Legend of Hank: An Epic Tattoo Journey

What started as a single tattoo has transformed into a sprawling saga across skin.

It began with Hank, the octopus—a creature of mystery, strength, and the uncanny. Hank sprawls across the chest and shoulder, his tentacles curling with purpose, seemingly coming to life with each muscle movement. For my customer, this wasn’t just a tattoo of a “cool octopus”; it was the beginning of a deeper narrative, a calling from the depths.

From there, the story evolved. Inspired by Hank, my customer returned with a request for a sleeve—a design that would incorporate a pirate’s journey, a cursed coin, and the tolls of the treacherous seas. The sleeve brims with details: a rugged pirate, clutching a coin engraved with a tiny octopus, his face weathered and intense. This pirate isn’t just any seafarer; he’s the bearer of a powerful curse that binds him to an eternal quest for treasure.

As you move down the arm, the story unfolds further: a skull represents the foreboding presence of death, and the storm-ravaged ship on the inner arm hints at the struggles of a crew forever haunted by their greed. A menacing shark and a treasure chest brimming with gold add layers of intrigue.

Then came the back piece—the grand finale of this maritime legend. We envisioned a voodoo priestess, the one responsible for the curse. Holding the fated coin, her face bears an expression of dark wisdom, a look that suggests she knows all too well the price of tampering with the powers of the deep. A storm brews around her, and her reflection below is haunting and twisted. A single tentacle lovingly wraps around her arm, a reminder of her intimate connection to Hank and the magic she wields.

Though the story remains fluid, with each session, we write another chapter of this epic tale in ink. From the chest to the sleeve to the back, the story comes alive, blending artistry with the legends of the high seas.
